The computers in the MCC library support the use of a USB or Flash Drive, also known as a nerd stick, memory stick or thumb drive.
Floppy drives are not the best option for saving files - many times your file is larger than the storage capacity available on a 3 1/2 floppy (1.44 Mb) . Floppy disks do not seem to be as reliable as they used to be. For one thing, saving and working with files on a floppy disk is much slower than any activity you handle on your computer (see PC Guide’s article on “floppies” for more information on the pros and cons). Additionally, if you buy a new computer or laptop, it may not include a floppy drive.
There are a variety of styles and storage capacities available in flash drives. Comparisons of flash drives are available from CNET and ZDNet. To read more about these drives, see this Wikipedia article.

The featured NetLibrary eBook for October is entitled The Sacred Neuron: Extraordinary New Discoveries Linking Science and Religion. According to NetLibrary’s description, “In his fascinating and original new book, John Bowker shows from this research that reason and emotion work much more closely together in forming human opinions and judgments than has previously been supposed. His argument that faith and belief can be rooted in reason has stunning implications for the increasingly dangerous relationship between different religions and cultures, and also for our understanding of the meaning of ‘God’. The Sacred Neuron is a masterful survey of key topics in science and religion, which will intrigue and delight the author’s many admirers.”
To view the eBook, go to the Library’s homepage and select NetLibrary from the left hand of the screen or in the Databases by Title listing. The eBook is accessible from the lower right corner of the NetLibrary main page if you are a current MCC student, faculty or staff. The eBook can only be accessed by one person at a time; therefore, be sure to close the book when are finished viewing the item.
