Library Website Changes

Effective August 20, 2007, a few changes were made to the library website, in an effort to improve the use of key features of the library’s online services.

The most notable change was to reword the link “Article Databases” to “Articles, Research, & More.” In addtion, the “Articles, Research & More” page has changed to include drop down boxes with links to all of our subscription databases (replacing the ABC links to the list).

Here is a brief summary of other notable changes you may want to be aware of as you begin research this semester or direct students to the library website for course assignments:

Left

  • “Quick Research Links” reworded to “Quick Links” and moved above the Book Search box
  • “Quick Book Search” reworded to “Book Search
  • Added link to “Renew Your Books Online
  • Placement of section “About the Library” and reordered items for prominence of “Information for Students” and “Services for Faculty”
  • New page, “Suggest a Library Purchase” has replaced “Collection Development Policy” (which is included on the new page)

Middle

  • “Finding Information” reworded to “Find & Search
  • Improvement of “Where Do I Start” page to include most common research resources
  • Rewording of Find Books (Online Catalog) to “Books (Online Catalog)
  • Rewording from “Article Databases” to “Articles, Research & More
  • Moved “Access from Home” to this section
  • Move and reworded section from “Useful Internet Sites” to “Find Internet Sites
  • New site for  Internet Sites by Subject using a free wiki.
  • Added link to “Evaluating Web Sources
  • Moved “Library Help” to top right next to Find & Search
  • New site for Library FAQs is searchable using a free wiki.
  • Reworded links under “More Libraries” to
    • Search the Library of Texas
    • Use Interlibrary Loan
    • Get a TexShare card

Naxos Scheduled Outage for Maintenance

From NAXOS (affecting Naxos Music Library, Naxos Music Library Jazz, and Naxos Spoken Word Library)

An urgent maintenance on the Naxos system will be be carried out from

01:00 CST to 01:20 CST (AM) on August 27, 2007.

The interruption is expected to last for 20 minutes. When it occurs, you could experience service interruptions, and see captions like “connection reset”, “cannot find server” or “page cannot be displayed”. Service on Naxos Music Library, NML Jazz and Naxos Spoken Word Library will be affected.

ASP (Ebsco) upgrades to Academic Search Complete

Ebsco’s Academic Search Complete Now Part of the TexShare Core Collection

*Academic Search Complete supercedes Academic Search Premier.  The library will be replacing all links to Academic Search Premier with Academic Search Complete in time for the beginning of the fall semester.

Description: By far the world’s most numerous collection of active full-text peer-reviewed journals, Academic Search Complete includes indexing for 9,000 journals, with full text for 5,500 of those titles.

Academic Search Complete contains full text coverage in animal science, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, astronomy, biology, chemistry, civil engineering, electrical engineering, ethnic & multicultural studies, food science & technology, general science, geography, geology, history, law, materials science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, music, pharmaceutical sciences, physics, psychology, religion & theology, veterinary science, women’s studies and zoology.

Content Includes:
9,000 Abstracted and indexed journals
5,500 Full text journals
Full text for numerous active peer-reviewed journals

Login changes for students

On Thursday, July 5, 2007, your MCC username (for E-Mail, WebAdvisor access, Blackboard access, Library Resources etc.) will change.

Your new username will be your First name initial, Last name initial, Full 7-digit MCC ID, which is located on the front of your student ID card:

For example:

Ima Student (ID number 0128043) would be is0128043

If you do not know your seven-digit student ID number, you may find your username here.

Your password will remain the same (6-digit birthdate).

Faculty and staff library logins will not change.

Library Hours - August 15 and 22
