Even though the library building will be CLOSED (December 15 - January 6), students can still use our 24/7 online resources and get reference assistance via email.

1. Students login from off-campus with their MCC username and password to use our online resources. Please contact the library by using our Ask a Librarian form if you have trouble logging in or using the databases from home.

Username: first name initial + last name initial + student ID number (located on student ID card)
Example: Ima Student (ID # 0012345) = is0012345

Password: 6 digit birth date
Example: 010191

2. To search our online resources, you might begin at the following places on the library web site:

• Where Do I Start? for our most commonly used searchable resources
• Articles, Research & More for a list of our databases in an A-Z list or by subject category.
• The MCC Library for December Minimester Students for helpful information especially for students taking minimester courses.

Writing Papers?
Don’t forget that the Writing Center (SC 222, 299-8356) is available to assist students:

1. Help with class essays, research papers, academic writing, letter writing, and resumes
2. Aided instruction through computer tutorials and ESL/ESOL software
3. Word processing help

The library has copies of the MLA and APA style guides; check out a copy for 2 hours to use in the library.

Printing in the library
If you are a new student at MCC and are planning to print or make copies in the MCC Library for the first time, you must use your activated Highlander OneCard to pay for prints and copies with money deposited to your campus funds.

End of Semester Book Due Dates
Any circulating books checked out on or after Sunday, November 25 will be due Friday, Dec. 7, 2007.  The last day to check out books is December 6, 2007, but the book will be due the following day, Friday, Dec. 7, 2007. 

(The due date for faculty and staff is Dec. 14, 2007.)

Library Hours during the end of the semester
Library hours will remain the same throughout the rest of the fall semester. 

December Minimester
During the December Minimester, the library will be closed from Dec. 15 to January 6.  The library’s web site and online databases will be available to December minimester students and the Ask a Librarian email service will also be available. 

Please note that the library will be closed Wednesday, August 15, due to a professional development opportunity for library employees, and we will have reduced staffing (but will be open) on August 22, from noon to 5:00 p.m., due to a library retreat. Beginning May 7, the Library’s Interim hours will be:

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday CLOSED

Between June 1, 2007 and August 10, 2007, the Library’s summer hours will be:

Monday - Thurday 7:30 am - 9:00 pm
Friday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday CLOSED
Sunday 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Between August 12 - 19, 2007, the Library’s hours will be:

Sundays CLOSED
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am - Noon
Closed Wednesday, August 15 due to library professional development

On August 20, 2007, Fall Library Hours will resume
Limited staffing, Wednesday, August 22 due to a library retreat

Toward the end of the semester the circulation period will be shorter because all books must be returned by the end of the semester.  The semester end due date was Friday, April 27th.  Books cannot be checked out again until May minimester and you have to be taking minimester courses to have checkout priveleges.

Did you know that when you check out a regular circulating library book you can renew it for an additional 2 week period?

There are 3 ways you can renew your checked out library books:

1. Online - Go to the Online Catalog, click on the My Account tab, enter your 7 Digit ID Number and then click on “Items Out”
2. Over the phone - call 299-8325, tell the library staff your 7 Digit ID Number and the titles of the books you wish to renew
3. In person - bring the books and your Highlander OneCard (ID) with you to the circulation counter during regular library hours

Be sure to renew your books before their due date has passed - you cannot renew a book that is already late/overdue.

1. It is strongly recommended that MCC students use their MCC campus email for sending and receiving emails for communication with instructors and for coursework. This is the best way to ensure that you successfully send and receive your emails.

All current MCC students have an individual MCC email account. To login, go to the MCC home page and click on the email link and enter your student login. Your MCC email address is as follows: yourusername@students.mclennan.edu

2. Current MCC students use their MCC student login to access the computers in the library’s computer lab and for accessing the library databases from home.

Instructions for login
Username: first initial, last name, last 4 digits of SSN# ( ex: jdoe1234 )
Password: six digit birthdate ( ex: 010188 )

3. When a current MCC student logins to a campus computer, they have access to a personal storage drive on the MCC Network. This H drive can be accessed only on campus.

Even though the MCC library building and face-to-face services will be closed (Dec. 9 – Jan 1) during the winter Minimester, the library anticipates that many students will be taking minimester courses that may benefit from the use of our library resources.

1. We have created an online library guide for Minimester students at http://www.mclennan.edu/library/stu/mini.html. This page will be available as a visible link on the library home page, as well as located on the “Information for Students” page.
2. Ask a Librarian: We will be offering a limited email reference service (responses in 12 hours) during the following dates: Dec. 13 - 23 and Dec. 26 - 28.  Emails can be sent to mcref@mclennan.edu or by using the Ask a Librarian form linked from the library home page.
3. For literature courses, we have created a resources guide for Literature and Literary Research:

Did you know that MCC students can print in color, scan images and documents, and burn files to CD at the library?  Come by the self-service area located near the library Information Desk.  Fees for printing and burning to CD must be paid for through your Highlander OneCard.  There are no fees for scanning files unless you print or burn to CD.
