Logins, Email, Storage

January 24th, 2007 by Administrator

1. It is strongly recommended that MCC students use their MCC campus email for sending and receiving emails for communication with instructors and for coursework. This is the best way to ensure that you successfully send and receive your emails.

All current MCC students have an individual MCC email account. To login, go to the MCC home page and click on the email link and enter your student login. Your MCC email address is as follows: yourusername@students.mclennan.edu

2. Current MCC students use their MCC student login to access the computers in the library’s computer lab and for accessing the library databases from home.

Instructions for login
Username: first initial, last name, last 4 digits of SSN# ( ex: jdoe1234 )
Password: six digit birthdate ( ex: 010188 )

3. When a current MCC student logins to a campus computer, they have access to a personal storage drive on the MCC Network. This H drive can be accessed only on campus.

File Storage Ideas for Students

October 12th, 2005 by Administrator

The computers in the MCC library support the use of a USB or Flash Drive, also known as a nerd stick, memory stick or thumb drive.

Floppy drives are not the best option for saving files - many times your file is larger than the storage capacity available on a 3 1/2 floppy (1.44 Mb) . Floppy disks do not seem to be as reliable as they used to be. For one thing, saving and working with files on a floppy disk is much slower than any activity you handle on your computer (see PC Guide’s article on “floppies” for more information on the pros and cons). Additionally, if you buy a new computer or laptop, it may not include a floppy drive.

There are a variety of styles and storage capacities available in flash drives. Comparisons of flash drives are available from CNET and ZDNet.  To read more about these drives, see this Wikipedia article.

ProQuest Bibliography

August 11th, 2005 by Administrator

ProQuest’s Interface allows you to automatically create a webpage with a list of search results or a marked list.

1. Conduct a search in ProQuest Newsstand
2. Select the items to put into your marked set OR if you want to add all of the search results, click on the box called “Mark all”
3. Click on the top tab entitled “My Research”
4. Choose “Create a webpage” listed as the fourth option
5. Choose to Download or Email the webpage that has been automatically created OR
6. Choose to edit the generated webpage by choosing “Edit the information below”
7. Under “Edit,” you can type in comments or you can choose to delete the search history that is displayed with the marked citations on your webpage
8. After making edits to the page, click “Update” and return to the page and either download or email the file. If you download, the webpage will display and you will need to choose File - Save in the browser

If you do not mark any documents, choosing the create a page will display your search history and visited publications. Because ProQuest automatically includes our proxy address, the links created in the webliography will be accessible from on or off-campus.
